About us
In the early 30’s young Dimitrios Lambropoulos learns the art of the shoemaker working next to experienced craftsmen in a place called “Tsarouchadika” in Moanstiraki area in Athens. His dream is to open his own shop, something he does in 1936. At number 65 of Pandrossou Street, in a small space in Monastiraki, he opens his business under the name “OREIVATIS” (which in Greek means climber), being himself a lover of mountaineering and hiking. The recipe is simple: leather hand-made products, such as belts, backpacks, sandals and hiking boots!
He then partners with his wife’s brother, Panagiotis Koniaris, and they continue working together for decades. Almost the entire family contributes to the shop: his wife, Aikaterini Lambropoulou, her sister, Fotini Koniari and the daughter of Aikaterini and Dimitiros, Charikleia.
In the mid-1980s, Aikaterini, the beloved “Kyra-Katina” of Pandrossou Street, takes over. We still hear sweet stories about her from old colleagues, customers and friends. Passionately, aided by her daughter, Charikleia, and the cooperation with experienced Greek craftsmen (some of whom the collaboration we keep until today), she continues for many years. It is then that Charikleia Pane, her daughter, along with the help of her own children (Katerina, Ioannis and Penelope), leads the way.
Finally, in 2010 it is the turn of Ioannis Panes, grandson of Dimitris and Aikaterini Lambropoulos, to continue the family tradition in the same place, at number 65 of Pandrossou Street, in as small “museum” of folk art that marries yesterday with today, tradition with modern fashion. His goal is 100 years of history in keeping with the same recipe: excellent quality of Greek handmade leather goods, crafted in the same good old way.
Holding both our family tradition and our customers in high regard, our priority is the excellent service, the good prices and the compliance with the hygiene rules!
